Rune Arm Crafting

Post by Zhoenix on Tue Mar 20, 2012 8:05 am

Hello all. Smile

Wanted to see what peoples opinions are on what to craft on Rune Arms.

I have no crafting at all, no desire to do so. But I do want to put something on my Rune Arm.

Any ideas, suggestions?

And could you point me to a link that would explaine how to do this exactly. Do I jsut buy a Shard off the AH and take it to some device and mash it into my Rune Arm? hehe

You craft onto rune arms just like any other item. Put it in the items crafting machine, put in your shard (whether you crafted it or bought it), and pull the lever.

As to what to put on it, it depends on the runearm i think. If you dont have potency then something to boost the elemental damage is nice. I personally have always put +2 attack on mine, and on lucid dreams i have put +4 attack.

What level / rune arms are you thinking of? remember it will increase the ML.

Here is a list of everything you can put on a rune arm.

Most of these can be gotten on different gear without too much trouble, so I'd definitely recommend the +4 attack bonus one. Of course that's only for high-level rune arms.

For the very lowest level rune arms (ie, the ones that only charge up to level 2, like Flicker, Khyber's Fury etc), I'd suggest putting a Superior (insert element here) III shard, as that'll give you 50% more rune arm damage and only raise the minlvl by 2. You're not likely to have terribly good Potency gear that early on, after all.

The problem for noncrafters is that to actually craft an unbound version of something like +4 attack bonus takes a very high crafting skill, so they're likely to charge you an arm and a leg for it.

Can't verify from work, I'll check when I get home. Wouldn't surprise me though.

Meanwhile, have a cat.

Re: Rune Arm Crafting

Post by Zhoenix on Tue Mar 20, 2012 9:36 am

I am currently using Glorious Obscenity. Soon to have Lucid Dreams.

So level of the rune arm does not matter to me, I am level 20.

I don't think a +2 to attack would benifit me much since I am planning on getting the Shimmering Arrowhead. Which gives me +2 to attack and +4 Seeker.

Perhaps an Acid Potency for Glorious and a Force one for Lucid.

Any other suggestions? Wink

And thank you so far for the suggestions.

i looked at that cat for way too long. i dont know where i am now.

lucid dreams has potency and arcane law on it. i dont think elemental damage boosts stack with that.

to be honest, since i got lucid, the only other rune arm i have touched is hand of the tombs for box breaking. i havent bothered crafting anything onto glorious obscenity for that reason.

i thought about the arrowhead as well, but there are other sources of +2 attack, and either bloodstone or something like ring of the stalker gives +6 seeker instead. easier to get than the arrowhead as well. not to mention that the cove spyglass fully upgraded is sweet for the trinket slot.

Confirmed: +4 to attack does in fact not exist in unbound form. So yeah.

That cat freaked me out as well.

I am guessing Lucid will be my main Rune arm as well once I get it. But for now, I really like Glorious. I call it the Click-Clacker. Little green homing balls of doom.

Never had luck pulling a Bloodstone and I am not sure at all where to get the Stalker Ring. So I have been looking for another source for Seeker. I like the Arrowhead because of the +2 to hit and the Crippling aspect as well.

Thansk for looking into that Iris.

The stalker ring comes from running Challenges, its crafted out of those funk parts. For non-tank melee's, its awesome.

The bloodstone, if I recall correctly, drops most frequently in the Auction Hall. (Seriously, trying to farm it will just drive you mad.)

I assume you have to unlock challanges though. I have every pack unlocked, but not the challanges. Wasn't sure it was worth it.

Re: Rune Arm Crafting

You can run some amount of them with free daily tokens. I ran some that way... and eventually got lazy trying to stock up enough tokens in order to do bursts of them and just bought the pack.

With a bit of persistance, you could probably avoid buying the pack. You can get 5 tokens a day as a P2P person with the first toon that asks for free tokens. Do that every day for a month, and you'll have 10 tokens for each challenge. That is a bunch to get started on... but, its also work. Less work than favor farming, more work than just spending the TP (although it aint cheap as packs go.... about 1500 TP. IIRC I bought it at like 20% off).

I made that stalker ring for gildus and I love it! It's a bit of a grind to get it up to tier 3 epic, but I think the challenges are pretty fun.

It has:
Ghostly (blur +ghost touched)
Seeker +6
Manslayer (vorpal against humanoids)
Empty Yellow Augment Slot (greater false life, feather fall, wizardry VI, or colorless)
Empty Colorless Augment Slot (and +6 stat, or +1 exceptional stat)

So not only does it have awesome properties, has a great deal of flexibility to fit in anything you're missing.

I even plan to make one for Saba for when he's not tanking.

[full disclosure: I am a 5% owner in Staker Ring Production Company, Inc]

The only way that challenge pack would tempt me is if they make it the next 75% off sale. Otherwise I'll just hope the Eveningtide challenges (or whatever the expansion ones will be called) are as easy to farm for epic tokens and have equally cool items.

I'm still bummed that Lucid Dreams is SO good. It saves you a slot on potency, gives you Arcane Lore which is crazy hard to get otherwise, and does force (always awesome.) The Animus I just pulled in epic DA is gonna be a glorified box-blaster, and despite my love of its name and theme, Glorious Obscenity looks like it'll only be used for 2 levels till I can equip Dreams...ah well. Good problem to have. Smile

Upgraded Toven's Hammer is still better of course, but Dreams is ridiculously easy to farm compared to that.

i wanted it before the update, and i used 4 full sets of discs and threw in several individual ones on other runs before it dropped for someone in the party. i dont know what the chance of it appearing in the end reward list is, but i cant imagine they would make it TOO easy. Stick with it though, it is awesome.

With the runearms, do you have to strip the existing enchantment off first or can you add new ones on top?

I've been hesitsnt to mess with it since I've only got the one reasonable one (flicker) and I'd rather not mess it up...

The mindsunder drop rates vary drastically based on difficulty. If you were running on normal you will see far less items than elite. Obviously with the freebie items this isn't really an issue now

The effects that the runearms have as standard stay whatever you do. You can add an additional effect by crafting on it. Once crafted, that effect is permanent (or its supposed to be).

I generally ran it on hard when i was trying to get it to drop from the optional chest. I dont think difficulty makes a difference for the 3rd completion reward chance though does it?

No it does not. Its random. I have been blowing through it on Casual 3 times to get the end reward list to pop them.

I have gotten Terror twice, some sickle, the phoenix robe, Light and Darkness..... you name it, I have gotten it except the darn rune arm.

Think it took me 9 casual runs to get one on Pinkie. But yeah, purely luck-based, regardless of difficulty.

Yeah, purely luck based for the 3-completions chance, and I think it's no less likely than any other named. I do feel your pain though - I didn't get my first Lucid Dreams till my 24th run of the quest. Then, I pulled another on my 27th. Smile
